Introduction to the Foodie Fridge

Welcome to the Foodie Fridge! I'm Mikenzie and I'm the founder of the Foodie Fridge. The Foodie Fridge is a place where you can find recipes from the greatest cooks done by yours truly. We can either see if I nailed the recipe (#nailedit) or if it was a total flop. We will work through different cookbooks such as Joanna Gaines, Ree Drummond, and many others. One of my favorite quotes about cooking is from, the renowned Julia Child, "No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing." This is what this journey or blog is about learning different recipes by trying them out, tweaking them to fit my style, and sharing with the greatest tribe how they turned out. Who knows, maybe one of the recipes will inspire you to start cooking?

A little about me: I am from Texas. I am a teacher turned nursing student. I love anything to do with the outdoors such as shooting, hiking, or exploring what nature has to offer. I'm a classy, sassy lady with a heart of gold and a love of the color pink. If it's pink, I got to have it. I strive to share positivity wherever I am planted. My favorite dessert is creme brûlée. The biggest food rule, I follow: you have to try everything once.

Welcome to my kitchen! This is a place where I will strive to fill your mind with wonder, share stories that surround different cultures, and show recipes that will tantalize your tastebuds beyond belief. Strap your seatbelts, ladies and gents, let's get started on this wild ride.

Cheers,

Mikenzie

Recipe #1: Joanna Gaines's Blueberry Muffins with Streusel Topping

For our first recipe, I thought we would stick with a breakfast staple..Blueberry Muffins. One of the reasons, I decided to start with this recipe because my dad has a love of the fruit blueberry. He loves blueberry pie, blueberry muffins, blueberry cobbler, or blueberry anything. Is your dad the same way? I decided that muffins were an easy breakfast item that are really hard to mess up, so it would be a perfect way to start our foodie journey. I followed Joanna Gaines recipe to a tee. It was super easy and really a quick way to get breakfast rolling. I would recommend making these the night before if you are an on the go type of person but if you have plenty of time in the morning to make your family breakfast, then you can make these the day of.      The first step was to make the streusel topping and it was super simple and easy, that anyone could do it. Ladies, that even means your husband, boyfriend, dad or brother, even with some guida...

Recipe #2: Oatmeal Creme Pies

Oatmeal Creme Pies Oh M goodness. This recipe was so fun to make. It does take a good chunk of time but the reward is so worth it. My favorite part of cooking from Joanna's cookbook is reading the traditions behind these recipes. She makes this recipe for her kiddos at the end of every school year as a way to celebrate the transition to summer. She has a family BBQ and pays homage to her own childhood. I mean who can't relate right? I remember when my mom packed my lunch in elementary school it was either a ding dong or a oatmeal creme pie. I sometimes on occasion still splurge and get an oatmeal creme pie. If you're lucky, you can find a double decker oatmeal creme pie. I really enjoyed making these and these little babies will give Little Debbie, a run for their money at your house. These cream pies will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth and although I did enjoy them, they did taste a little too sweet for me. But my mom loved them. There were a few thi...
